It is hard to hear your puppy cry in their crate. You want to help, but you also need to sleep! Here are five simple ways to help your puppy stay quiet and happy:
Tire Them Out: A tired puppy is a quiet puppy. Play with them or take them for a short walk before they go into the crate.
Give Them a Treat: Only give your puppy their favorite toy or special treat when they are in the crate. This makes them think the crate is a fun place to be.
The “Boring” Bathroom Trip: If they cry at night, take them outside quickly. Do not play or talk to them. Once they go potty, put them right back in. This shows them that crying does not mean “playtime.”
Use a Heartbeat Toy: Puppies miss their moms. A soft toy that makes a heartbeat sound can help them feel safe and fall asleep faster.
Wait for Silence: Never open the crate while they are screaming. Wait for just a few seconds of silence, then let them out. This teaches them that being quiet gets a reward.
